The 2015 Omega Golf Open

Happy Friday!  Today has yielded some challenges for me, le sigh!  But, I'm pressing through them...

Let's talk about golf.  I know, I know, most folks think it's the most boring thing on the planet. I know, I used to be one of them.  Back when I was in law school and clerking, my boss asked me how I was gonna get clients if I didn't play golf???  I avoided it for many years, even though my late uncle offered to take me and teach me many times.  I just wasn't interested, ya know?

But something changed around 10 years ago and I became curious.  My first foray into golf was at the driving range.  I was still skeptical, but the first time I made contact with the ball and made it fly, I was hooked!  So much so that I bought myself a set of clubs for my birthday the following year!  Now, I am by no means an expert; I was content with going to the driving range from then on, and I never stepped foot on a golf course until 2012.  And know where that was?  The 2012 Omega Open!

Each year, Urban Dude's fraternity hosts a Scholarship Golf Outing called The Omega Open at Glenwoodie Golf Course, see here. The main purpose of the golf outing is to fund the scholarships they award each year.

As I have for the past 4 seasons, I played in a foursome at the outing.  I like golf outings because there's not a lot of pressure on an individual golfer because you play "best ball," and I'm still not great at the game.  Every year, we play with an older, couple the Davises, who are so absolutely adorable to me!!!  Each year, Mr. Davis tells us stories about his life, the different experiences that he's had (he was a botanist or something like that and played in the Negro league) and I look forward to it!

This year's golf outing was very well attended; there were almost 100 golfers!  Of course, I didn't win any prizes, but my outfit's cute, right???  They had several raffles at the banquet, gave out all sorts of prizes and awarded $5000 in scholarship money to high school seniors. I think this is a fun way to invest in a child's future!
